I’m very glad to learn that the article help you. In general I like Google products, but this particular decision was very poor on their part. You now have to login to an app that’s used to help you with logins! Fortunately all these authenticators work the same way and are interchangeable. Now I keep all the authenticator seeds backed up, so if the need arises, I can import them into another authenticator app.

Hello. You need to run adb.exe from the command line. Sorry but I don’t know anything else about this matter. I looked briefly into how to find older versions of `adb` and couldn’t find anything.

yes I have having this error too, the `INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE` error, but overall the blockage is at the command line, I can’t open the command line to communicate with the phone, in the downloaded package I am opening the supplied files like “adb.exe” and “sqlite3.exe” and “fastboot.exe”, opening these but nothing happens, even though the phone is connected to the laptop via USB cable. Could I ask you for a videocall consultation ? for example on Teams or Skype ? I would pay in dollars or euros for your help of course. What is the best way to organise this?

Not sure how to get a hold of an older version of `adb`, especially on Windows.

I only know that when I used my `1.0.41` installation of `adb`, I was able to downgrade the installation of Authenticator.

See Jocke’s comment above, where the result was an `INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE` error.

Some other articles on the web mention combining the -d flag with the -r flag, which “replaces the existing application” according to the tool’s help.

So you may try this: `adb install -d -r Google\ Authenticator_6.0_APKPure.apk`. Good luck.

Hi Alex, I am having exactly this problem too, can I get direct help please? Huawei P60 pro. I have read everything detailed on this page, but I am not a developer, just a basic techie, and you lost me at “older version of adb”, I just can’t manage to make my Windows PC install the adb pack, and then communicate via the USB cable to my android phone, to try to install the pack for the Authenticator rev. 6.
Can I get a consultation or any help on this please? Even if I manage to install, in my PC, the Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.41, then how exactly do I do the subsequent steps ?

The solution is to use an older version of adb. Newer versions of adb do not allow downgrading app versions.
